Eugene Brucker Education Center

Eugene Brucker

The San Diego city schools education center was dedicated in May of 2000 to longtime educator, Eugene Brucker, who died of cancer the year before.

Brucker began his career in public education in 1947 as a teacher with city schools. He later became a vice principal, principal and deputy superintendent.

He served as interim superintendent, filling in for nine months between superintendents Tom Goodman and Tom Payzant. He retired from city schools in 1985 and in 1998 from San Diego State University, where he taught public administration part time.

Brucker was elected in 1998 to the county Board of Education, where he served until his death.

The Education center, at 4100 Normal St., houses administrative, personnel, school security and other departments needed to operate the 141,000-student district.
